How to get a personbevis in Sweden — and when you can download it immediately
Video guide
Some population registration certificates can be downloaded directly from Skatteverket, while others need to be ordered by post.
A personbevis is an extract from Sweden’s Population Register (folkbokföringsregistret). An employer, university, authority or another organisation may ask you to provide one.
There is no single personbevis that works for every situation. The right certificate depends on the information the recipient needs.
When you can download it
If you are over 16, have Swedish e-ID and the certificate contains only your own registered details, many types can be obtained through Skatteverket’s online service. Sign in, choose the certificate you need and, if a digital version is available, download the PDF.
When it may need to be posted
If the certificate needs to include information about another person — for example a child, spouse or other relative — it often needs to be ordered for postal delivery.
Documents intended for foreign authorities or embassies may also have additional requirements, such as a signature, stamp or a particular version of the population register extract.
What to do
- Open Skatteverket’s personbevis service.
- Check who is requesting the document and what they need it for.
- Choose the appropriate certificate.
- If a digital version is available, sign in with Swedish e-ID.
- Download and save the PDF.
- If family details or special certification are required, order the postal version instead.
Tip: ask the recipient exactly which details they need before ordering. It can save you from choosing the wrong certificate.
