How to view your medical record in Sweden through 1177 Journalen
Video guide
How to access 1177 Journalen, what information may be available, the age rules, and why records differ between regions and healthcare providers.
After a healthcare appointment in Sweden, you can often view parts of your medical record online through 1177 Journalen.
This can be useful if you want to reread a clinical note, check an available test result or review other information that your region and healthcare provider make available online.
What can appear in Journalen?
There is no single identical view across Sweden. Depending on the region and provider, Journalen may include clinical notes, diagnoses, test results, referrals, visit information and other parts of your medical record.
How to access it
- Go to 1177.se.
- Sign in to the logged-in services.
- Open Journalen.
- Select the note or section you want to read.
Age rules
According to 1177, people aged 16 or over who have a Swedish personal identity number can read information from their own medical record online.
A registered guardian can normally view a child's online record while the child is under 13. For young people aged 13–15, access may be possible in certain cases; 1177 advises contacting the healthcare provider where the young person received care.
Why can't I see everything?
1177 states that the amount of information available varies between Swedish regions and can also vary between individual healthcare providers. If a note or result is missing from Journalen, that does not necessarily mean it is absent from the complete medical record.
The information is retrieved from different healthcare record systems, and new information may not appear immediately after an appointment.
Practical advice
If something is unclear, looks incorrect, or an expected result is missing, contact the healthcare provider that created the record or ordered the test. Do not treat a single test value as a diagnosis without clinical context.
