Not sure whether you can still collect medicine on your prescription? Check online
Video guide
In Sweden, you can check online whether a prescription is still valid, how many times you can still collect your medicine and your high-cost protection information.
It is easy to lose track of an older prescription and wonder whether it is still valid or whether you can still collect your medication.
In Sweden, you can check this online using Läkemedelskollen, an official service provided by E-hälsomyndigheten.
What you can check
- your prescriptions;
- when a prescription expires;
- how many collections remain;
- medicines you have already collected;
- information about Sweden's high-cost protection for medicines;
- powers of attorney for pharmacy matters.
The Swedish term uttag refers to the number of times medication can still be dispensed under a prescription.
How to access it
Through 1177:
- Sign in to 1177.
- Open the section for medicine services.
- Choose the option to view prescription information.
- You will be taken to Läkemedelskollen.
You can also access Läkemedelskollen directly. E-hälsomyndigheten states that you must be at least 18 and have valid electronic identification to sign in directly.
High-cost protection
Läkemedelskollen also provides information about högkostnadsskydd, Sweden's high-cost protection system for prescription medicines.
Children's prescriptions
A guardian can see medicine information for a child under 13. For young people aged 13–18, 1177 advises contacting a doctor or pharmacy for prescription information.
Why this is useful
Before travelling to a pharmacy, you can quickly check whether the prescription is still valid, whether you can still collect the medicine and when the prescription expires.
