Housing support: check whether you may qualify

Video guide

Housing allowance mainly targets families with children and low-income people under 29. The calculator is only an estimate. Försäkringskassan makes the final decision and later income reconciliation can lead to an extra payment or repayment.

You may qualify for help with your housing costs.

If you have children, or you are under 29 with a low income, check whether you may qualify for housing support. An online calculator can show quickly whether applying may be worthwhile.

What you need to know

  • Housing allowance mainly targets families with children and low-income people under 29.
  • For families with children, the 2026 maximum is SEK 4,200 with one child, SEK 5,200 with two, and SEK 6,200 with three or more.
  • For under-29s, eligibility depends on income and housing cost; second-hand renting can qualify.
  • The benefit is based on estimated annual income, so changes should be reported.

What to do

  1. Use Försäkringskassan’s Räkna på bostadsbidrag tool.
  2. Enter household, income and housing-cost details.
  3. If the estimate suggests eligibility, apply through Mina sidor.
  4. Report changes in income, rent or household composition.

Important

The calculator is only an estimate. Försäkringskassan makes the final decision and later income reconciliation can lead to an extra payment or repayment.
