Couples and families can speak with a counsellor about relationship difficulties and conflict. Swedish law requires municipalities to offer family counselling to people who request it. Search your municipality’s familjerådgivning service to book.
In Sweden, municipalities must offer family counselling to people who request it. Familjerådgivning consists of counselling conversations intended to help couples and families work through relationship and cohabitation conflicts.
Who it may help
It can be useful for recurring conflict, communication problems, relationship crises or other difficulties in living together.
What to do
- Search your municipality’s website for familjerådgivning.
- Check how to book, waiting times and meeting format.
- Check the current fee and confidentiality information.
How much does it cost?
There is no single nationwide fee; municipalities set their own terms. For example, Stockholms stad charges SEK 450 per couple for a 90-minute session in 2026. That is a Stockholm example, not a national price.
