ATB: SEK 300 or 600 for dental care in Sweden
ATB — allmänt tandvårdsbidrag is Sweden's general state dental allowance. If you are eligible, the allowance is normally available in the dental support system without a separate application.
In 2026: most adults aged 24–65 receive SEK 300 per year. Ages 20–23 and 67+ receive SEK 600. A temporary rule also gives SEK 600 to people who turn 66 during 2026.
How much is ATB?
- 20–23: SEK 600/year.
- 24–65: SEK 300/year.
- 67+: SEK 600/year.
- Turning 66 in 2026: SEK 600.
When is it credited?
A new ATB amount is credited on 1 July each year. It is not paid to your bank account; the dental clinic uses it as part of your payment.
Can it be saved?
Yes. You can save one year's allowance and use two allowances together.
How to check your balance
Ask your dentist or dental hygienist before payment.
Before treatment
- Confirm that the clinic is connected to the state dental support system.
- Ask how much ATB you have available.
- Ask for a price estimate.
- Ask whether the high-cost protection also applies.
